Histocare
HistoCARE is an IMN platform, located on the 3rd floor of the Centre Broca Nouvelle-Aquitaine, within the Bordeaux Neurocampus. It is mainly dedicated to the histological characterisation of animal models of neurodegenerative diseases.

Why HistoCARE?
Our aim is to pool our know-how and collaborate with different researchers, wherever they come from, to help them carry out their projects by using all the possibilities offered by our skills in histology in a qualitative and continuous improvement approach.
What makes our service unique is our ability to manage large cohorts of virtually all species using routine techniques. Our pricing structure does not include any payroll costs for academic laboratories, so our rates are particularly attractive.
We have the human resources (2 full-time statutory staff), the equipment (cryostats, vibratomes, various automated systems, various bright-field or fluorescence microscopy workstations, virtual slide scanners, off-line analysis workstations, etc.) and, above all, the expertise with over 25 years’ experience in the field.
Within this platform, we offer services (carried out entirely in-house) for all or part of projects involving histology techniques, mainly in the field of neuroscience, such as:
- Handling of tissue already removed (all models)
- Tissue sections
- IHC (brightfield and fluorescence)
- Staining
- Virtual slides and image analysis
HistoCARE is an IMN entity, so we prioritise requests from our institute. Of course, we remain vigilant to maintain a balance between demand and what we can offer: it is vital not to compromise the quality of our work or the health of our team.
Do you have projects involving histology? We’d love to hear from you!
Are you part of the IMN?
This platform gives all IMN teams access to:
- A range of equipment and consumables
- A histology training panel (learn how to use one of the pieces of equipment available on the platform)
- Technical assistance (carry out part of your project’s experiments: tissue preparation, cutting, immunolabelling, analyses, etc.)
- Scientific collaboration (take charge of the complete histological analysis of your project’s tissues)
